Pot-stickers

“What happened!?” Mom said.

“It’s a long story.”

Jason glanced quickly around the kitchen. He had to come up with a plausible explanation, “I was trying to make my lunch.” How could Mom be angry if he was trying to make less work for her!

“What were you trying to make with pots on the floor, and silverware all over?”

“Food?”

“What kind of food...?”

Well, she caught him with that one... then a whisper in his ear. “Pot stickers...”

“Pot stickers!”

“Do you know what that is?”

“Of course! Some food that sticks to a pot. I’m trying jelly next...” he raised up his hand with the jelly jar in it.

He watched the anger dissipate into confusion, then a lot of thinking, and finally she spoke.

“I’ll make your lunch, we can make pot stickers another time. Clean up!” she left.

Not the happiest, but certainly hopeful... thought Jason he turned to Carbo.

“How many times have I told you not to make a mess! I’m eight! You can’t get away with stupid things like this at eight!”

The small furry brown critter appeared. “What does eight mean?” then looked around, blinked twice and the kitchen was back to where it was before he started. Then he suddenly disappeared again.

Jason frowned, but then his mother peeked in.

“How did you do that so fast?”

“Speed cleaning?”

Mom laughed, everything was right again. Jason made plans for some serious lessons for his make-believe friend.

Unfortunately, Carbo had realized Jason was too old, no fun anymore! He moved on to Celia, next door. Only one, and ready to go!

Jason and Celia were married for almost forty-five years before they discovered they’d both had the same dreams about a small, furry brown friend. Well, they assumed they were dreams...
