It’s Snowing

“It’s snowing again.” said Alice, standing in the doorway.

Kirsty looked up, “It’s always snowing.”

“That’s not true! Well, it wasn’t true before we came here.”

“Maybe they’re just having a bad month here.”

“I’m not sure, but I think we’ve been here longer than that.”

“You know what I mean. Anyway, I really like this place.”

“Well, I do too, just not the snow part.”

“Maybe it’ll clear up. In the meantime, do you want to help me with the next puzzle?”

“Oh, sure! But... it’s getting dark already. Why don’t we start it tomorrow? Even if it’s still snowing we can have a fun time inside!”

“Good plan!” they shut the door.

Eleven months later: “Wow, I slept like a log!” said Kirsty.

“Me too!” said Alice, maybe the snow is actually good for sleeping. I haven’t slept this good in, well, my whole life! Are you ready to try that puzzle with me?”

“Yes! Let’s start!” off they ran to the den.

Jason turned over something he had taken out of one of the boxes, and looked up, “Is this the new one?”

“I think so,” Mom said, hesitantly.

“I thought it had two girls standing in the doorway...”

“I don’t really remember,” she shook it, “it still works.”

Alice glanced out the window. “Well, we’ll find out now...”

“About what?” asked Kirsty, picking up another piece of the puzzle’s border and setting it in place.

“About if the snow helps us sleep better. Look, it’s snowing again already!”

Mom set the piece on the table, trying to remember if there were two figures standing in the doorway. Unfortunately, she hadn’t actually paid that much attention last year at the Christmas Fair. She just thought it was cute, and she knew Jason loved snow globes.
