Grammie’s House

“Time for bed kids. Tomorrow after breakfast we’ll go to Grammie’s,”

Trish and Stevie looked at each other with a look Dad wasn’t translating. “What is that look for?” he asked.

“Do we have to go to Grammie’s?” Trish asked.

“You don’t want to go see Grammie?”

“It’s not that. There’s nothing to do at Grammie’s.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, there’s nothing to do. We walk around the yard we’ve walked around a hundred times. The toy box Grammie has, has the same toys in it that we played with when we were little. You and Grammie talk, but not usually to us and you keep telling us to go play, but there’s nothing to play with.”

Dad sat down. “Oh. Well, I guess I never thought about that. I only see her one day a week for a few hours so I do like to talk and see what she’s doing or if she needs something. I guess I forgot you guys aren’t so little anymore.”

“We want to see Grammie too,” Stevie chimed in, “but we just end up seeing each other, which we see every day.”

“You’re right,” Dad said, “any suggestions to fix this?”

“Maybe we could go to the park, or for a walk… or maybe Grammie could come here?”

“I’ll call her and talk about it. Now go to bed,”

In the morning the kids were excited to find out what happened. Was there a new plan?

“There is!” Dad said. “Grammie said she has just the thing to keep you busy!”

“What is it?” They both asked at once.

“Grammie’s going to have you two help her clean out her garage!”

Hey, Grammie may be old, but Grammie’s no fool…
