Jenny Smiled

“Come on Jenny, don’t be naïve!” Randy said, teasing, but also somewhat pushy.

“No, not this place. If you want to mess up somebody’s Halloween decorations do it somewhere else, and not with me.”

“First of all, it’s just a prank, people expect pranks on Halloween. It’s fun. Second, this place is so gloomy they deserve to get pranked. Look at that pathetic porch! One pumpkin? They think one pumpkin is enough for Halloween? They deserve being pranked.”

“You don’t even know who lives there.”

“Somebody who doesn’t know how to decorate that’s for sure. Come on, it’ll be fun!”

“It won’t. This place is cursed, that’s why there’s just only one pumpkin.”

“Cursed?” Randy said, somewhat laughing, “This place is just owned by stupid people who don’t know how to have fun. How did little old you come to that conclusion anyway.”

“Well, if you must know, I live here.”

“Come on. You live on Grove Street, I’m not stupid.”

“Well, yes I live on Grove Street on weekdays because it’s close to the school. This is where my real family lives.”

“Now I know you’re lying. I’ve met your mother!”

“She’s just my caretaker really.”

“Why would you need a caretaker?”

“Well, it’s hard to remember how to seem fourteen when you’re really three thousand forty-seven years old.”

“You’re a nut job!” Randy said, laughing.

“And you are mean...” Jenny said, flicking her fingers and immediately turning Randy into a pumpkin.

As she carried him up to the door, her mother came out, well, floated out actually.

“Another one huh, so does this mean we let this one go now?”

“Yes, could you please turn him into a rat. He was always a good rat.”

“Done! Love you,” said Mom, “Happy Halloween Honey!

Jenny just smiled.
