A man who lost his memory after a heist gone bad now needs to find his place in the world |
Everything became a blur as a man went flying out of the trunk of the van. He saw the three silhouettes of someone driving and the two others scream and reach out for him, but the man doesn't have time to react before slamming his head onto the pavement and skidding across the road before falling into bushes, decorating the now bloody street. The sound of sirens and colors from bright blue and red flashing lights are the last thing he registered before blacking out on this country road. The man starts to wake up to the sounds of a quiet beeping as he looks around to see that he is in a hospital bed plugged into all sorts of equipment. As he starts to wake, he sees the door pushed open, and the sound of a rattling cart entering the room. He looks over to the door to see a tall woman who looks to be in her mid 20’s, dawned in nurse scrubs with short, bright, blonde hair that sits perfectly on her shoulders. She then turns to see the man sitting up revealing her warm hazel eyes. “Oh, welcome back to the world of the living.” She says with a cheery voice that wakes the room. “Ugh, thank you.” The man groggily gave his short response as he racked his brain for a proper response. “Wow! Oh sorry, the doctor was saying that you might not be able to talk again after that accident.” She put trying quickly to not sound rude. “Accident?” he puzzled as none of the pieces were fitting together, as he attempts to work his way towards an answer, he feels a spike of pain in the top left side of his head, causing him to wince in pain before quickly shutting his eye. “Um, let me go get the doctor, he’ll be able to explain it better!” She says before darting out of the room. The man then began to breathe and let himself relax as the pain began to drift away. He then began to shift his legs to where he could hang them off the bed while sitting up. He let himself calm down before pushing off the bed to a standing position. His legs began to buckle before standing firm as he walked a few steps around the room before ending up in the bathroom in front of a mirror. He saw that he has a toned body built from years of work with a huge scar above his left eye. The doctor then walks in seeing the bed empty. “Nurse where’s the patient? oh.” The doctor says seeing the bathroom door open. He walks over to the bathroom to see his patient standing in front of the mirror with his nightgown. “Hmm, you shouldn't be able to up and about, right now.” The doctor says through his shock. “Where am I.” The man questioned turning around to face the doctor. “You are at Vinland health, and like I was saying you, should be sitting down,” the doctor said placing a hand on the man's back and motioning him towards the bed. “How did I get here.” He asked while being led back to the bed. “A nice old man brought you in a few weeks ago,” The doctor answered. “Weeks?” he replied as they reached the bed. “Yes, now what is the last thing you remember?” The doctor asked heading over to the door and plucking off a clipboard. “I don’t know.” The man says as he tries to piece his life back together, only to see different blurs and silhouettes of people saying scramble messages before he is brought out of his thoughts by a sharp pain in his head. “Hmm, well it seems that your doing well physically but we’ll still need to do a few tests just to be sure.” The doctor says getting up and motioning for him to follow. The next two months are spent in physical therapy but the doctor’s kept changing it up due to the rate at which he would succeed. He had made uncharted progress in recovery but he wasn’t able to recover any of his memory. The doctor began to see that there was nothing that they could do so they eventually discharged him, and since he could never remember his name, the nurse started to call him Vin. After the discharge, Vin went out looking for a place to stay. As he was walking through town he couldn’t shake that familiar feeling. He started to see the silhouettes reappear but before he could make any process on a breakthrough, he heard a yelp coming from an alleyway not too far off. Vin quickly dashed over before seeing two drunk men being held at knifepoint by three crooks. Vin jump into action feeling that his body moved on its own and grabbed the knife from the crook spinning it in his hand before holding it up to one of the crooks' throats then snapping back into reality and dropping the knife onto the ground. As the knife clatters onto the ground the crooks break into a sprint to run away. “Heyy look at the hero, thanks for saving our asses.” One of the men says throwing an arm around him. “Thanks, buddy!” The other man says trying to steady himself on the wall “Hey wanna be a designated driver for a few bucks.” “Um,” Vin racked his brain for a quick reply. “Hey, first you gotta ask him if he can drive first.” “Oh right, can you drive?” “Um, yea I think.” “Good enough, let’s go.” The men say leading Vin out of the alley and towards a small car before handing him the keys the two men then loaded into the back seat with Vin getting into the front. As Vin sat down the car changed from an SUV with a neon green dashboard to a muscle car with a bright red dashboard. As he tries to focus back on reality he felt someone placing a hand on his shoulder. He quickly turned to see a silhouette of a woman. “You ok ____?” |
