Last Mow of the Season

I needed to mow the lawn. “The last mow of the Season” but required. I’ve tried before skipping this one, thinking the grass will wilt and the snow will fall. Well! It worked exactly that way. However, in the spring I had all this wilted and stiff, practically knotted, grass to rake up before I could do anything fun! I learned my lesson... well, the second time I tried it I learned my lesson, (I called the first time the test, just in case it might eventually work...)

The wind was blowing and the temperature had dropped a lot since last week. I needed a coat. That took half an hour. Apparently, I’d had it on doing something in the cellar last spring. I couldn’t remember what, but when I found it I did remember taking it off, and stuffing it on a shelf because who needs a coat in the cellar?

Off to the shed. The lawn mower was all set, right where I left it a week and a half ago when I convinced myself that, that was the “Last Mow of the Season.” Thankfully I didn’t empty the gas tank like I always promise myself I’m going to do “this year.” I pulled it out and it started up, reluctantly.

Assuming it was the cooler temperature, I began my “Last Mow of the Season!” again...

I got about two feet before a tiny puff of smoke sneaked out and made its way up to the heavens. Then the lawn mower stopped completely, going silent.

I tried to re-start it many times. (Too many, my right shoulder still hurts.) and then you know what I did? I made an executive decision! Who decided two years without that last mow was enough of a test? I’m going for three!
