The Highway

The Highway

In my life I have people who
Believe that it is thier way or
The Highway. Often it has
One lane and no exits to be seen.

The highway far above
There is a desert far below.
No exits to be seen but
I can see someone wave to me.

Is it just a trick of my mind?
Yet again someone waves to me.
I am reminded of the
highway. The only way I know.

I am reminded of the scary
desert below. Is there someone
Anyone who can change my path.
I need to stop. Stop my brain.

I stop and I can see no exit
I look into the danger of an
Endless lonely empty desert
But I can see a small sign.

A stranger holds it up high.
I struggle to see it, read it
Your life is yours and your way is clear
The path you need and want is near.

Walk or run to the oasis the choice is yours.
See the signs please don't be blind,
glance back. The highway is long the exit far.
Again and again I see signs,

I want to go back to the life
that I knew, so easy to do.
Freedom, so close I taste it.
One foot in front of the other.

Forward not back is never easy
But in the distance I can see
Many people and many signs
They show love and happiness.

I continue to move forward and
No one is there anymore
Is it a mirage driven by pain
but there are signs on the ground.

We have followed our path
We left this for you so you
Can follow your own pathway.
I read the signs that mattered to me.

You have conquered your fear
Enjoy your Freedom! Be free.
Glance back don't stare back
Your strength is earned not given.
Give kindness don't demand it.

Help when you can but not if you can't.
Work hard just because you can.
Travel the path or show others how
to find a way to their own path.
