Apple Pie

Apple pie, how hard could it be? I wanted to surprise my new husband with something he loved. I knew he loved apple pie. Practically every desert he got when we were dating was apple pie.

I’ll admit, I cheated on the crust, bought pre-made. I thought it was OK, I’d work on the crust part later on in the marriage if this worked out. I wasn’t much of a cook, truth be told.

I had a lovely glass pie plate I got from my mother when I moved into my first apartment. Boy was she optimistic! I actually used it on my nightstand to keep all my candy wrappers and cracker crumbs under control. Of course now, being married, it was in the cabinet as if going to be used. And now, I was actually going to use it!

I even cut a leaf shape out of the crust, so it would look like those fancy ones you see in the bakeries.

The directions said quarter the apples, add sugar, milk vanilla, I forget now... but I did it all. Bake at blah, blah degrees for blah blah amount of time. I used my timer so I got that right! It actually looked and smelled wonderful when it came out of the oven! I was genuinely proud! I took a picture and put it on “Lifebook” immediately. Got lot’s of Wow’s! It made my day!

When John got home, I couldn’t wait to give it to him! We had supper first, of course, he brought take out. I really don’t cook very well...

As he cut into his pie, we discovered something really weird, I thought. The recipe said quarter the apples, but somehow that didn’t seem to mean cut each one into four pieces...

John couldn’t stop laughing.
