Devotion on the presence of God in our lives |
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. (Psalm 139:7-12 NIV) God is omnipresent. He is everywhere. Even when we can’t see Him. Even when we choose not to see Him. He is there. At first glance at the above verses, it’s easy for our focus to be solely on His presence. But then we also read the words “even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast”. God has a purpose for everything. And He has a plan for each one of us. A plan that includes guiding us, through the Holy Spirit, to fulfill that plan—His will for our lives. I can remember in times of frustration crying out “Where is God?” I wanted answers, solutions. I wanted Him to “fix things”….to fix my life. I didn’t know then that He never turned away from me. I turned away from Him. I didn’t realize that when my will collided with His will, I would feel alone and confused. I had to find Him again….and I did. I opened my Bible. The word “God”/”god” is in the NIV version of the Bible 3,952 times. We can always find Him. There is nothing that is going on in our lives that His Word does not have an answer for. Words of love, comfort, clarity, guidance, joy, rebuke, and instruction. I feel His presence every time I open it. And I feel His hand and heart guiding me. Prayer Lord, thank you for loving me enough to know that I would need help along the way. Please help me to never forget where my help comes from. In Jesus’ name I pray. |
