Daily Walk

My daily walk, required by my doctor. I try for “daily” but some days I’m too busy (others, I just don’t feel like it.)

I have a favorite route to take. One small hill, not much traffic, and no way I will run into anyone else and have to pretend I’m glad to see them...

Today was nice, sunny, a perfect day. Not too warm, not too cold, no wind. One of those spring days that give you hope for the future. Yes, tomorrow may turn cold again, we could even get more snow, but today was springy!

I had on my medium jacket, not too light, nor too heavy, perfect for a spring walk. As I was halfway up the hill, a bug of some kind landed on my sleeve. It was actually a little early for bugs, but this one was out. I decided to let it be, just off my sleeve, thank you!

It was a beetle sized bug, brown, with yellow stripes. I had never seen one before, but then I never was good at bug identification. It didn’t look like it would sting. I brushed it off.

It immediately panicked or something and flew up, right into my hair! Now I panicked! Just because it didn’t look like it would bite, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t! I had no way to “see” it so my only option was to reach up and try to get it, hoping for the best.

I gently circled it with my fingers and pulled it out of my hair, opening my hand so it could fly away. I swear, it looked right at me, bit me! Then flew off.

Faith in nature shattered, I went home, soaked my bite and decided never to walk again!

Unfortunately, my doctor has another opinion...
