Convention

I have always been rather shy
not a social butterfly

I set up shop inside my shell
and bide there, rather well

but there may be an intervention
a writer's creative convention

I could pack my shell upon my back
and travel the unbeaten track

Listen to the voices behind the words
hear their laughter, light as birds

Watch and marvel and learn
perhaps even speak, in my turn

Pack new memories to take home
feel again that I am not alone
