The Plan

“We’re gonna get caught.”

“Oh ye of little faith,” answered Jack, smiling. “This is going to be epic!”

“What does epic mean?”

“That it will blow your mind at how we get away with this!”

“So, you have a plan?”

“The plan is to steal the pies off Mrs. Hopmayer’s porch.”

“Yes, but how?”

“Sneakily.”

“So, there’s no plan then, right?”

“Well, it’s a general plan, play it by ear plan, sort of.”

“So, in this plan how do we get the pies?”

“We quietly take them off her back porch.”

“What if she’s standing in the kitchen where she can see the whole back porch through those windows?”

“We wait till she leaves the kitchen!”

“OK, and what about Rover?”

“What about Rover, he’s a dog.”

“What if he barks when he sees us and she runs back into the kitchen to see what he’s barking at?”

“Well, we should wait till she ties Rover up outside the side porch like she does every day.”

“So, after ten then.”

“Yes!”

“So after ten o’clock we watch for Mrs. Hopmayer to leave the kitchen and we, what run up and grab the pies?”

“Epic!”

“Won’t she hear us run up the steps?”

“So, we can actually reach them from that garden, no steps!”

“So after she puts Rover out, and then leaves the kitchen again, we sneak into the bushes and swipe the pies, right?”

“Exactly!”

“That’s the plan?”

“Yes! That’s the plan!”

“Jack,” Ted said quietly, “there she is, taking the pies back in the house.”

“Crap. I was really looking forward to those pies too.”

“Well I was thinking there was a better chance we’d get caught and grounded.”

“How could we? We had such a great plan!”

“Right... Well, maybe next time big brother, maybe next time...”
