Tuesday’s Walk Walking through the park, something I do most days. Not because it’s so beautiful, though it can be. It is a lovely park, but I walk there because I live in a tiny apartment, and my doctor has threatened me. She basically tells me that if I don’t stay active I will not be living in a tiny apartment for long, I will be living in a nursing home. Today was a lovely day, blue sky, not too hot not too cold. I had a fiver in my purse so that as soon as I heard that ice cream truck bell I could aim right for it, as usual. (My doctor does not know about this part.) Anyway, I was walking down the path with the large green spiky plant that I can never remember the name of, when I heard a commotion on the ground behind it. Curious I tip toed nearer to see what was happening. There, behind the plant, was a red bird, and a blue bird, and they seemed to be having a quarrel over a bug, a rather big bug too, that was on the ground between them. I could almost imagine the words, “It’s mine!” “I saw it first!” as the poor bug cowered in between them afraid to move for fear of getting stabbed by a sharp beak or talon. Well, I am always on the side of the underdog! I immediately jumped into action! “Shoo!” I yelled, scaring both birds off in one fell swoop! I assumed the bug would scurry off too, but it just sat there. Wondering if it was hurt or stunned I went over closer. It immediately flew up and landed on my nose, then bit me! I laughed all the way home. It just made my day! |
