Babysitting 101

“You better straighten up, this is your final warning.”

Ronny looked at Sam and they both started giggling.

Sandra closed her eyes. How did she get talked into this? She had no idea how to handle ten year old boys. It had sounded so easy. Twenty bucks for just watching them for an hour, one hour! It had only been fifteen minutes so far and she was already way over her head.

Think! She screamed inside her head. You were ten once, what was fun and safe, and easy? If they were girls she could probably do hair and make up stuff. What do boys like?

Well, sports were out, she was terrible at sports. Hide and seek definitely out, she’d never find them! They didn’t seem craftsy. But… boys were always hungry! Right?

“Let’s make some snacks!” she said, before she’d really even thought it out.

“Like what?” Ron asked, interested.

“I don’t know, let’s go see what you have in the kitchen!”

The boys were excited! Unfortunately they only had a short time left before their mother was due home. It couldn’t be cookies or anything like that, it had to be quick.

Now a bit panicked she grabbed the first thing she saw, bananas. “Do you like bananas? What can we do with bananas?”

“Peanut butter!” yelled Ronnie.

“Ice cream” yelled Sam at the same time!

“How about both?” Sandra said.

Giving each a bowl with a banana, ice cream and peanut butter in it, she had them make their own sundae. It was a lovely, yummy mess and the hour passed very quickly.

As she left with her twenty dollars, she heard their mother say, “I can’t believe she fed you ice cream before supper! I won’t be calling her to babysit again.”

Sandra was delighted!
