Flash Fiction
“Where do you think you’re going?” asked Jeff.

“With you,” Jane answered.

“I don’t think so.”

“I have to go.”

“Why is that?”

“Who’s going to open the door?”

“I will!”

“You’ll have your hands full of flowers and candy.”

“Well I’ll put it down, and open the door myself.”

“And then what if she’s right there and the door opens and you are there bending stuff?”

“Well I won’t put it down then, I’ll just be holding it.”

“So, you open the door and there you are holding a pile of stuff, and it’s not her, it’s her grandmother! Are you going to tell her sweet old Grandmother it’s not all for her?”

“Are you doing all this just to drive me crazy?”

“I just want to help, it was my idea after all. See, I go over and knock on the door and whoever answers the door, if it’s not Susan I ask for her and if it is her I say ‘someone wants to see you!’ and duck out of the way!”

“And go away?”

“Yes! Well, after Susan sees you, and is all happy!”

“Ok. Deal.”

Suddenly there was a knock at their door.

Jane opened it, standing there was Susan!

“Hi Jane! Someone wants to see you!” and she immediately ducks out of sight.

Jane’s brother Frank steps forward with a bunch of flowers and a big box of candy.

“Susan, I’ve wanted to ask you out for a while, but I was too shy. Will you be my Valentine?”

Jane just stood there in shock.

Jeff peeked around the door. “You and Susan think a little too much alike...”

Susan peeked around the corner, “Oh, hello Jeff!” then she smiled. Jeff’s brain went completely blank.

Many years later Jeff and Frank became great brother-in-law’s.
