Contest entry for August, Taboo Words Contest
AUGUST PROMPT:

SOLITUDE
taboo words:
Solitude
Lonely
Alone
Separate
Isolated
Apart

A wanderer adrift
In a world of emptiness,
I seek companionship
That will never materialize.
I am bereft.
I listen for any sound
That might announce
The arrival of someone..
Some thing!
Any thing!
But, I am greeted by a
Universe of silence.
Dead silence.
Eternal silence
That screams at me.
There is no one left!
I am in a vacuum.
This nightmarish Hell
Is all I see, feel, even taste.
Desolate emptiness has
Become my closest friend
And my most fierce enemy.
I know that eventually
My human shell will
Cease to exist,
At least, on this plane.
Just like a vapor,
The essence that
Has defined me will
Evaporate.
Perhaps, then, I will be
Surrounded again
By warmth and
Camaraderie
And joyous cacophony.
Until then, I will
Continue on-
A knight errant.
