A love poem
You left
Not by choice
But you are not here
That’s all I know.

One day, too soon
You won’t come back
You told me this day would come.

Is today just practice?
For that sinking, let down feeling
Deflated. Bereft.
Alone.

I can reach for you all I want
But you’re not there.
I can cry for you until my tears run dry
But you won’t hear them.
My arms can ache to hold you
Empty, they ache more.

I will survive
Yes. Of course
I will thrive
A better woman for having known you
Knowing What Love looks like in the mirror of your eyes
Knowing What Love feels like—strong, confident, assured

And you. My man. My beautiful, loving, joyful man
Thank you from the depths of my soul
For showing me what is possible
It is this, This, that you showed me
This I will treasure, as your treasure
Always.
