Today is Women's Day, so I decided to write a poem to mark the date.
Women’s Day

Bobbie Salvador

March 8, 2019

I live in a country where I have a choice,

while others live without a voice,

so I pondered what I might say

in contribution to Women’s Day.

Women are beautiful as are men.

We needn’t fight, with one to win.

Father, mother, sister, brother,

let’s collaborate and lift each other.

Achieving equality for women

does not mean depriving men.

Equal opportunity and equal pay

should be our goal, without delay.

Let mothers choose a life of quality,

at home or working in equality.

Give them the same chance

to organize their lives and find balance.

Shouldn’t fathers have the right

to tuck their children in at night?

Let them, if they so choose,

stay home and tie their children’s shoes.

When a girl has access to education,

it protects her from victimization,

enhances her family’s wealth,

and improves her future children’s health.

Throw misogynistic practices aside

and let men and women govern side by side,

passing laws to improve our nation,

and pave the way to a better civilization.

Women are beautiful as are men.

We needn’t fight, with one to win.

It’s Women’s Day, so raise your voice

and fight for a woman’s right to “choice.”
