He didn't know how to tell me
Our relationship was new
He didn't know how to tell me
'Cos dates -- we'd just had a few.

Now that I think back
I know once or twice
he was on the verge of revealing it
But he couched, then said something nice.

So I bought the tickets
And soon, we were bound
Me, excited, he rather subdued
To the fairground.

We did the usual things
Cotton candy and stuff
Little souvenirs, lots of games
I couldn't get enough.

The lights shone, the music played
And then -- the big reveal
An archway opened to a glittering
Magical, amazing FERRIS WHEEL!

I joined in the oohs and aahs
I clapped like the rest
This was the highlight of the day
Oh, it was the best!

"Come on," I urged him
"Let's get on the first ride!
Cuddle, while we go around
In orbit, side by side!"

I felt in my purse
for the tickets, so precious
Then grabbed my date's hand
So nothing could separate us.

But he didn't move
He stood there, rooted
While the music blared louder
And a trumpet hooted.

"The first ride is getting full!"
I pleaded, as I tugged
It was then that the words in him
Were suddenly unplugged

"I should've said this before,"
he blinked in the lights
"I should've told you that
I'm petrified of heights."

"I can't go on the Ferris Wheel
It just too frightening.
How can I make it up to you?
I'll do anything."

So we gave the tickets away
To another young couple
Did he make it up to me?
Yes, and more than double!

He's just so cute
And really wants to apologise
He's been pampering me since
Treating me like a prize!

I didn't go on the Ferris Wheel
But this entire romance
Is a roller coaster ride
For which I give my thanks!
