New Year's Resolution

Let's start afresh to make this year
the best we've had but shed a tear
for loved ones lost; their light shines on.
Nobody's ever truly gone
while others live who hold them dear.

So keep your children ever near,
protecting them from every fear,
and gather friends, excluding none.
Let's start afresh.

Ignore those folks who laugh and jeer;
a better life begins right here.
Some resolutions are a con -
you need not run a marathon!
For now, just raise a glass and cheer:
Let's start afresh!
