I grew up in a patch outside of town
I had dark orange skin and no bruises found
Many days in the sun helped me grow up grand
With all the pumpkins together, it seemed like a dreamland
I was hoping to be made into a family pie
But some of my innards were left on the table to die
A ghastly mess, the two children made
Was when they carved my face with a long, cold blade
This bleak story has no happy part
Some namelessmortal threw out my heart
A little boy put a purple candle inside my shell
And the place his sister put me was ugly as well
The fog that night just didn't feel right
As I sat on a porch all through the night
So what's a sad pumpkin going to do?
When I heard on November 1st, my time was through
They put me in the backyard where I sat all day
But the best part was, I could see some squirrels play.
Squirrels eat pumpkins and are happy as can be
I was their favorite food, a tasty honoree.
