The latest part of my series, Painting With Words.
Once upon a time, in a starry midnight drear.
With a foggy late night mist abroad.
The moon was shedding tears.
It was hidden at times as the clouds passed by.
While at other times quite clear.
Hell's minions were creating havoc abroad.
While masses of witches chanted near.
The Devils were free to kill.
Granting utter chaos across the lands.
The darkest of man's fears.
Quickly began to steer so near.
The wolves, cats, and bears.
Craved our human flesh to feed.
They thrashed throughout the land.
Searching for victims lives to steal.
In the blackness of the night.
The horror of the gore arose.
As the heads began to roll.
The forest was whispering quietly.
Encumbered with a cold dark tone.
Gripping its victim's hearts.
And shattering their hope.
Left isolated bound and paralyzed.
Tightly confined from vines.
That ripped through the flesh and bones.
The presence of evil was chilling the meek.
Turning a strong man weak.
The vampire bats flew low.
Searching for life to leach away.
From all of the damned lost souls.
Creating a numbing discomfort in the mind.
As the reaper comes to gather toll.
Carrying them off to the devil's throne.
With no one to hear the cries but the torturer himself.
Those deemed unworthy.
Were burned beyond recognition.
Never again to see rest.
The winds smelled strongly of death.
Causing dread to those who had made it home.
The rivers and oceans flooded the land with blood.
Bringing a bitter ending to the world.
