Anything we've forgotten or lost
resides with six missing beer mugs,
his favorite deer hunting sock
and my mother's mother's ring
that vanishes on a regular basis.

Anything we have known
(the important things)
we rehash and retell--
a mantra, the glue
that keeps us stuck together.

Anything we have known
becomes part of the story
of us even if it was before
because now there is only now
and all we've been, we are.

Anything we've forgotten
we remember in time,
relive it again from a shared perspective
making it part of the
everything we have known.
