Confusion over generations
I don't want to offend anybody, so please understand that this is simply my thoughts and opinions. I don't expect all to agree. We have had the X generation. We have had the Y generation too. So what is the new generation? Surely it must be the Cotton Wool Generation. Why so? Well it seems to me that there is no effort these days, to encourage today’s kids to toughen up. I give some examples. I'm 64 years old myself, as a child, we played sport to win. Now some schools are discouraging competitive sport because the losers might get upset. It's all over the news and current affairs programs, how fat our kids are. We as parents and fast food outlets get the blame. SORRY THEY GOT IT ALL WRONG. The cause of childhood obesity is very simple....they sit on the bums playing Nintendo, Playstation etc. The cure? Simple....get off your fat little bum and get outside and play. Oops, sorry, you don't know how do you? Everyone talks about how rude today’s youth are and how there's no respect anymore. That's because you can't make your kids do anything and neither can the schools. What's wrong with a bit of discipline? When I went to school, I had to have my hair cut to the standard short back and sides...so what. If I had my hands in my pockets I had to sew them up for a month...so what. My shirt had to be tucked in...so what. If my school uniform included shorts, then I had to pull my socks up...so what. I think I still hold the school record for the number of canings I received...so what. Canings were what taught us things like logic and consequences. If I was caught smoking I got the cane. I knew that would happen, so there's logic...get caught, get caned, yep worth the risk (lol). The consequence...the cane. No complaints from me, I used logic and knew the consequences. Today’s kids aren't polite...because they don't have to be. Today’s kids have no respect...because they don't even know what it is.
