A poem for that person who holds a special piece of your heart
One

The one that always greets you
A name, a face, a voice
The one who your heart beats to
A soul skip without choice

A melody infectious
A tune addictive, raw
A dance so free and reckless
With steps that span the floor

A routine spun so carefree
Yet cautious and controlled
I wish I could move freely
But nerves, they just take hold

They lock me in a slow step
… she twirls around the floor
Outside on a low pep,
I'm left alone once more

Negotiating different ground
I try to keep pursuit
Midnight at the lost and found
At midday, map a route

Routes that I would like to think,
find reasons in the rhyme
Jumping in and out of sync
I never stay in time

With lifts and holds in emptiness
With moves rehearsed, not shown
The dance it leaves me envious
To things I've never known

Whilst partners come. Imagined? Real?
They come and go in turns
The conga line, it winds surreal
… and unspent passion burns

Souls skip hopeful that they're heard
That face, name, voice... naive
Hearts beat out of time, absurd
… the one that sees me leave
