My Special Night

My Special Night
Ghosts, ballet dancers, and freaky Frankensteins
came knocking at my door in costumes fine.
I even saw a pirate, who had a parrot green
that he got from a store and named her Josephine.
The moon was bright and the air was cool.
Trick or treaters stopped at ten, which was the rule.
I had no more candy. I closed my door
and went to settle down with some friends who I adore.

The house shook once. I heard a frightening howl.
The lights blinked one time and in flew a solemn owl.
At the last a giant pumpkin magically appeared.
I knew that this was the official sign, that brought me cheer.
My friends came from the down the dark hall.
First, a beautiful witch who was six feet tall.
She said that the zombies were ready to come.
She waved a wand and chanted, “Fee-fie-fo-fum.”

Grand people made my day of my fortieth year.
I know each honored celebrity had no better living peer.
First the ghosts of Elvis and Bing sang Happy Birthday for me.
My heart began to feel such joyous glee.
Charlie Chaplin and Groucho put on a silly skit.
I laughed until I cried. They were a bodacious hit.
Ethel Waters and Maria Callas’s duet was a vocal delight.
Their voices were dreamlike and oh so right!

Then came the fresh baked apple pie
with the number forty on the crust, I can’t deny.
My birthday wish for this special night was glorious,
A Halloween bash that was victorious.
You may want to know was this real
or dream-like thing I’ll try to conceal.
I had my wonderful day. I’m still in a daze.
And it was nice to celebrate with friends on this happy holiday.


I already know that in a few places the rhythm is off. I was trying to beat a deadline. but :( missed it. So enjoy the poem.
