, , will you be mine?
My darling dear, love you all the time.
I’m just a fool, a fool in love with you.*
Angels on Earth, wingless, corporeal,
flesh and blood, laughter and tears.
No halos abide their crown, nor
are any necessary. Caring and
compassion, the genuine smile,
a hug that is real like sunshine.
No eye has seen the specters
of angels found in dogma,
but earthly angels please
the eye like warm
compresses, like
gentle massages
around the backs
of one’s ears.
Sighs, out-bursts of laughter,
hair-bangs and tresses and
twinkling eyes; the hospitality,
the comfort found in empathy,
a touch, a kiss that speaks
of a heart good as gold
wrapped in white silk.
These are the real deal,
not some fly-away whiffs
or evanescent phantasms.
Earth abides, angels survive;
we are the fortunate
recipients.

Earth Angel, Earth Angel, will you be mine?
My darling dear, love you all the time.
