Flash Fiction
Kevin’s Cat

Boo heard a noise, Kevin was home! She jumped up and ran to the door in eager anticipation. She didn’t know the noise was Kevin’s key in the lock, she just knew it was the noise that meant Kevin was home. But this wasn’t Kevin.

Boo darted quickly, tucking herself under the table before the person saw her. The strange person came right in! Then he took out a bag and started putting Kevin’s things in it. First things from the bathroom, then clothes and then in the kitchen he put the milk and other stuff in a box, and then got some cans and put them in the box too. Boo watched carefully from her hiding place.

Setting the box and the bag next to the door he started looking around the apartment, in the corners, behind the furniture. Boo scurried under the bed to hide. Then the man came right into the bedroom and in a minute his giant face was looking right at Boo under the bed! Boo backed away as far as she could, but the man spoke.

“Boo! I’ve been looking for you! Kevin had a little accident and he has to stay at my house until his leg gets better. He sent me over to get you! Come on! You’re going to stay with me too.” Boo had no idea what the man was saying and now she was very scared!

But then the man tossed a treat over near her, then another, and another. Boo followed the treats then a quick hand caught her up pulling her out. But he was gentle and cuddled her close saying soft words.

“Let’s go,” he said finally to the purring cat, “I guess Kevin was right, you will go anywhere with someone who has enough treats!”
