Contest entry, memories, mother
Paper and twine,
Glitter and glue,
Notes from the heart,
That say I love you.

Stored now in boxes
On dank closet shelves,
Forgotten memories
Of once younger selves.

Mom's eyes would sparkle
When treasures we'd bring
Drawings and stories,
Were such treasured things!

A kiss on the forehead,
A hug - (the best part!)
She'd display each piece
Like valuable art.

Later she'd store them
Wrapped with such care.
And think of each child
Wishing they were there.

Like stored paper treasures,
She faded with age,
Alone with memories
On each brittle page.

Her pride still would soar
At each visit or call
No matter how brief
No matter how small.

Alone with memories,
I find myself
Looking through boxes
On dank closet shelves.

Paper and twine,
Glitter and glue,
Remembering Mom,
How much we loved you!
