campfires trodden on.

what is left,

are debris of sizzling sparks,

escaping death

from under the sole of a timberland

like fireflies from jars.

sedated eyes,

watch red poppies

bloom out of wrists and thighs

on bathroom floors

tiles resembling the abyss

of future soil.

sedated eyes,

drown pills stuck in

peristaltic walls

with cups of water after another.

sedated eyes,

stare at ceilings

silently

sedated eyes

do not speak.
