Finding the Light As the rumbling got intense, Sean and Tam grabbed on for dear life knowing it would be followed by a horrendous gust of wind. As soon as it passed, they got back to work. “The foliage is slippery; we can’t even hold our place. Are you sure we’re going in the right direction?” Sean yelled to Tam. “Yes! We’re supposed to go away from the light, you know that. We’ve had that pounded in our heads since we were little. Away from the light! Keep going!” Sean looked back at the light. “What if we can’t get away from the wind? You don’t even know what’s around that corner once we get there.” “Away from the light, that’s the rule.” The rumbling started again. “Hang on! Just hang on!” Tam yelled. Sean grabbed a stalk, it was slippery but he wiped it down so he could hang on, soon another huge gust of wind blew by, coming directly from the corner they were trying to get to. “This is crazy. What if we just get to the corner and the wind comes? There’s nothing to hang on to there and we don’t even know what’s around that corner! It could be a trap! Let’s just get out of here!” “I don’t know,” said Tam, “maybe you’re right. This tunnel is yukky and wet. I guess we could try the light and see what we can find.” Just then the rumbling started again, “Hang on!” Tam yelled, grabbing Sean, but the wind came too fast. Struggling, they grabbed each other but were blown right out of the tunnel. Fortunately, they landed in a soft dusty pile. “Woah! This is great!” Tam yelled, “We should have come here first!” … Meanwhile, George sneezed again. “Blooming nose! Unfortunately, I’m allergic to dust mites.” |
