Who knew you could get a dog finding a cat? Meet Annie in my (Emily Clark) book.
Hi, my name is Annie and I'm nine. I live in Paris, France. It's a pretty cool place to visit, but to live there, it's awful. The streets are always busy; you can't cross the street without falling a hundred times, etc. But in all, I like it. There is one thing a want though; a dog. My family has had one pet in my thirteen years of living. A goldfish. How exciting! (I'm being sarcastic by the way.) And that's it. Pretty boring right? But today I was excited. I was going to the pet store! I had high hopes of getting a dog. If my parents let me, that is. Usually, I hate pet stores, the way they keep the poor animals all stuck up in a cage. But the dog I want you can only get at the store. Can you guess what it is? Give up? A golden retriever mixed with a poodle. There so cu-ute!
Now, as we (my family) were driving in the car, my little brother, David, started to sing. So embarrassing! But who cares? Me. When we arrived at the pet store, I ran to the section where I knew the dog was. "There he is!" I told my parents. "He is pretty cute." Mom agreed. Score! "Can we get him?" I said, looking at my parents with cute doggy eyes. "Oh don't look at me like that!" Mom laughed. And we left. So depressing.
The next day I went on a field trip with my class. Along the way I saw a sign with a picture of a missing cat. It was missing from the pet store! The cat must have been pretty special, 'cause the reward of whoever finds it is the animal of their choice! I need to find it! I thought to myself, looking around. As my class and I were going to a park, I spotted a furry little tail poking up in a bush. I ran to get it. As I picked it up, I remembered seeing a cat like this. Oh yeah! It was the one in the sign! I asked my teacher if I could carry it around for the rest of the day, considering there was only a half an hour left till we had to go back to school. She said yes. When I got home from school, I ran to my mother's room. "Mom, mom, I found the missing cat!" I told her. "What missing cat?" She asked, looking confused. "The one that the reward is a free animal at the pet store!" I said. "Oh that's good." "Can I get the dog I wanted?" I asked. "Um, I guess if it's free. But you have to make sure of that." She answered. "Oh yes! Thank you mom!" I said, hugging her. I ran to the pet store, still clutching the cat. "Excuse my m'am. But I found this missing cat at the park, and I think it's the one where you get a free animal if you find it." I said to the lady at counter in the pet store. "Oh yeah. Congrats." She said. "Come with me to pick your animal." She told me. "Ok." And I headed over to the section with the dog. "I want this one." I said, pointing to the dog. "Sure." She said, unlocking the cage and picking him out. "Thanks!" I took the dog and walked home.
