Three Minute Read |
Snow Globe Walking through the store, gritting my teeth. I hate crowds, shopping, Christmas. I’d done my required shopping on line months ago for the specific purpose of not needing to set foot in a store. Everything was packed for my trip home. I escaped that place five years ago, but was required to go going back for Christmas to uphold my trust. This was the last year, I turned twenty-five right after Christmas finally giving me control of my own money. I was only in the store now because father’s secretary called to tell me that Aunt Edna would be there. I didn’t even know her; she was a recluse; she hadn’t been to our house since I was a baby. I thought father had disowned her! Apparently not though, and one last time I needed to please father. After this year, I never planned to go there again. I decided to grab whatever would do, then go. There was a table of snow globes near the entrance. Picking one up, I shook it to make sure it worked, watching the snow cover a small house on a hill with a tiny woman standing in front. Checking the tag, it was expensive enough to fill my obligation of “nice gift,” so I got in line to pay. As I stood there, I looked back at the globe, the woman seemed to have moved. Was it broken? I shook it again. Suddenly a huge wind blew around me, so strong I actually ducked! When it passed, I opened my eyes. I was standing on a hill in front of a small house in the snow. Next to me was a woman, laughing. “I’ve waited so long! It’s time, Ginny, It’s time for you to really come home.” Aunt Edna said. |
