Singed Feather
They say ambition can be overwhelming,
That a hint of power can taint even the strongest of us,
I’ve seen it with my own eyes,
Teachers bent by sexual desire,
Leaders cracked down over the flash of riches,
We criticize them,
We call them weak and stress their cowardice,
But who are we to judge,
We’ve all succumb to greed discarding our willpower at the chance of temporary euphoria,
Even my eyes glimmer at the idea of total control,
Power, Money, Intimacy,
They’re all considered aspects of success yet contribute more towards our demise,
We ascend on wings of pure innocence headed for our corrupted depiction of glory,
Most of us go down in a burning blaze,
While some of us survive with singed feathers.
