My Best Friend Is ME

I look in the mirror and who do I see?
A stranger who looks nothing like me.

I twist, turn, and squint peering at that image.
Was she recently involved in a nasty scrimmage?

I wasn't expecting such a shocking view.
The entire picture seemed to be askew.

I kept on staring for what seemed like forever.
And finally I knew her, for I am very clever.

She's been my best friend for 72 years.
Through joy, heartbreak and many fears.

I realized finally that the woman I see
has always been my best friend, ME!
