A Seasonal piece for an unseasonal time |
Winter Fell It seems that we've skipped Autumn With leaves still on the trees Mementos stored, we hoard them Immune to Winter's Breeze Some foliage we all keep So green within our minds To others rustic fallen Gathered over time Treasure troves in time washed coves Hold more than we can see A place where we all flock in droves To X's marks, maps, keys Keys dependent to ourselves Cut for us alone Secret closets, dusty shelves Old skeletons and bones Rictus grins to hide the pains Anxieties and doubts Shafts of light and shadowed strains And baubles screaming out Silent in the darkness born The chest it opens, creaks With Memories that glisten, torn For those who listen, speaks In transit, where débuts are made And foreign tongues are spoke With bold moves played out in the shade In light, the swaggers broke With smiles glancing from the right Nights long gone we pick Alone at dawn, an eyelid drawn Down life's paths they stick A sneeze acute, to break a pause An awkward outstretched hand A noble goal, a futile cause A decorated stand A cookie on a keyboard, snapped Captured in the past Despite such hard winds, driven blown The memories they last Enduring through Winter's drifts To prosper in the Spring We dance throughout the Summer's shifts … for Autumn's fall we sing |
