. . . pretended smiles, for those who do not yet know . . .

*Candycaner* *Xmastree* *Candycaner*

Some say there are two types of December moods. The first type is the Joy To World mood and the second type is the Bah Hum Bug mood.

Ah, but I say there are more than two types of December moods, and the one left out is far more prevalent than the other two
combined.

Christmas Mourning
Carol St. Ann

There is a somberness
that comes with the holidays.
Time, like an army of wooden soldiers,
marches across the landscape of our lives,
robbing innocence and faith,
leaving frenzied shopping,
and drunken gluttonous feasting
in their place.
Guardians and loved ones,
whose sincerest soulful pledges of
through the years
we all will be together

rang through the rafters,
were disallowed by the fates,
and those once joyful
melodious tidings
sting and gouge
and rip the heart out,
tainting beautiful memories
with longing
that will never fade
nor be fulfilled.
All this to bear,
hidden in secret
behind pretended smiles
for those who do not yet know.
For those who do not yet know.
