A poem about a backpacking tour - written for a WDC birthday contest
My backpack is packed and I’m ready to go –
This trip will be one of a lifetime I know.
The sun’s shining brightly with no sign of rain
When I finally reach Madrid Airport in Spain.

My friends are all waiting, there’s no time to rest!
A Segway tour sure puts our balance to test.
Tapas and wine and historical tours
(And a drama at customs for poor Pandapaws!) *Shock*

Next day, Barcelona, our hotel is lush.
My room is fantastic, the bed is so plush.
Beaches and theme parks – we’re having a ball!
Our travel guide Lyn has just thought of it all.

In to the night we all party and dance
But it’s up early morning to travel to France –
Breakfast together now that we’re all pally,
Me, Carly, Megan and Kitty and Sally.

A hike up a mountain, A trip to the zoo,
(And there’s always the room for a red wine or two!)
There’s no stopping now and we’re raring to go
It’s dazzling; It’s shiny; Hello MONACO!

This tiny warm country is oozing with money,
Still Sarah and Norb will keep things light and funny *Laugh*.
We ride on a chopper and ride on a bike
And we eat and drink all of the things that we like.

Yet there’s no time to settle for soon we will head
To a new destination, new hotel, new bed
The high boot of Europe is calling our names –
Welcome to Italy, more fun and games!

Florence, Verona, the sounds and the sights,
And of course not forgetting the parties at night!
But there’s no time to linger, we must retain order
As now we are crossing the Austrian border.

A boutique hotel there awaits us in Wien
To explore this fair City we’re all super keen.
(Did you know that in German the word “Day” is “Tag”?)
Never mind, now it’s time that we head off to Prague!

Through Berlin and Dresden and Hamburg we travel,
All the time Lyn makes sure that our plans don’t unravel.
We take in the culture and taste brand new food
And then visit some shops (which are frankly quite rude *Blush*)

Now we’re heading to Holland, to old Amsterdam
Canal boats and art – that’s the general plan
The others are partying right ‘til they drop –
Whilst I think I’ll head off to a nice coffee shop…..

Paris is next, a few days to explore
Whilst Kitty and Norb make the most of this tour.
The hotel is stunning and devoid of flaws,
(Yet we seem to have lost our dear friend Pandapaws).

All too soon, back to London, the tour’s at an end
But what will become of my backpacking friends?
Sarah and Jody and Sally and Neva,
All back to their homes so will I see them ever?

Kittee and Norb we have had such a blast,
Sarah and Daniel – how quickly it’s passed.
Megan and Daniko, our Sandralynn
I’m sure this is how our new friendships begin.

Now I’m on the train home and I just cannot wait
For next August to come, it will happen too late!
I have just one thought as they’re closing the doors
What ever became of poor old Pandapaws?
