One of the first poems I had written in years. || Originally written July 23rd, 2015.

"Tides"
by Zacharie Distaso

It’s not right, it’s horrible, I know.
That I spare your feelings and let it go.

It’s sick, it’s twisted, but it’s a game to you, love.
I feel suffocated, trapped, caged, a dove.

You try, I know, you don’t have to say you do.
Therein lies the problem, though: I don’t want you to.

You pull and I push, so further we drift.
Love isn’t a prize, don’t you understand it’s a gift?

It’s exhausting you know, this struggle, this plight.
The more you try and control me, the quicker you fade from sight.

That feeling you have is not affection, because blinded you are by infatuation.
The aggression, the questions, this friendship restricted by your obsessions.

I know what you want, you don’t have to scream.
How many times do I need tell you it’s only a dream?

Could you blame me if it’s true that I don’t care,
When I’m the one always gasping for air?
