Dalthyrian in my Garden

Simply Magical

Hare cavorts with dragon
in myrtle nest and ivy bower.
Night-lit owl watches, guards
as tree frogs join evening chorus.
Tulips dance their brief number
to Spring's earliest music,
applauded by the violet nosegays
while iris, lily and climbing rose
impatiently await their turn.
Enchantment does, indeed, exist
here but you need quick senses.
Perhaps you'll hear Thumper jig.
Robins splash, taking their morning bath
while giving Dalthyrian a shower.
Annuals come back, year after year
here in my magical plot. Bulbs move
mysteriously in their beds,
stretching roots,
arching slim, green bodies
to the wind and sun.
Mint, myrtle, entwine
with vincavine that escaped
geraniums and window boxes
to grow here instead. Pansies
reappear year to year as if they
were meant to, but normally?
One year wonders
to replant every season.
We never really know
what will spring forth,
what pretty heads
will smile and wave.
But then,
therein
lies the magic!
