Me Time

Curl into blanket, coffee cup nearby,
jammies comfy, munchies at the ready.
Kindle fully loaded with the new book
I've been dying to read.
Phone off.
Much I should accomplish
but it will wait for another time.
This is mine!

Characters kaleidoscope as
J.D. Robb plops murder: all blood and gore
across my bedroom floor.
Peabody smirks at McNabb
and I laugh at their antics.
The bad guy formulates his latest
dastardly crime and Mavis will
flaunt her multicolored hair, clashing clothes
as her high-pitched squeal resonates.
Nothing else I need:
my time to read.

Midnight mayhem, Dallas forges in,
whiskey eyes flint hard, observing,
recording every minute detail.
Home to nightmares.
Roark loving her from dream into reality.
Like the holoroom somewhere in their fortress,
characters cavort and scheme
across my vision.
Nothing and no one to interfere.
Me and my book are the only ones here.

Read until my eyes go blurry,
unscheduled nap attacks.
Drift in dreams until I wake
and know I can go on reading,
finish my book at five or ten,
wish I didn't have to wait six months
for her next one.
But I have more to read, my Kindle
is loaded, battery refilled whilst I slept.
Perhaps the new Mara McBain
and I sink into Annie and CJ and I'm gone again.
