Road closed.
Barriers with flashing lights:
turn around ... take detour.
Time constraints pothole brain.
Bridge Out.
No way to get from here to there
as raging waters erode conscious concretions.

Detour down the unpaved
and washboard dirt track.
Off track. GPS* claxon clanging.
It is lost too.
Dead humming:
line drawn, unable to be deleted.
Wingless ideas can’t fly.

But nothing.
No zing
of idea flashing,
of theme resonating.
Inner silence.
No thundering response.
No itchy fingers clacking.

Deadline hovering,
glaring, insisting.
Paper mutely mocking.
Brain floundering,
then wallowing
in self-pitying pout.
Nothing. Period.

Concept lacking. Sound intrudes.
Clock ticking mutinously.
Second hand noise reverberating
moving inexorably forward.
Concentration landslides.
Type. Delete. Repeat.
All else fails, embrace the ride.

Why not? Makes sense.
Create what does
not want to be created.
Authorial barrier crashes
in shards of the unsaid.
Inkling inked in letters connected:
road opened.
