Life of the Broken Heart

My heart was stomped upon by one so fair.
He took the life out of my loving heart.
All who meet us thought us a perfect pair.
At first, I had never thought it would start,

But then you took my heart and held it fast.
I was so happy I could have laughed out!
My heart did flutter when you would walk past.
Then you changed and could only make me shout.

My heart was broken, smashed, never to heal.
Why then can you think to try to change me,
So that I can be what you think is real?
I just want to be able to be free.

One day I will find the one who is right,
But until that day comes, my heart will fight.
