Flo drove alone along a winding road at night; the moon along with Jupiter and Mars shone bright. November winds, as sometimes is their want, blew warm; (in Maine, such gentle temperatures are not the norm.) Flo had the windows down enjoying mild air, when suddenly to her dismay she got a scare. So happens that a black cat jumped upon her hood; poor Flo was shocked but drove her car the best she could. Alas, her best was not sufficient mustard cut; her car veered left and then veered right into a rut. Out of control, Flo did not know what she would do; she crashed into a field where watermelons grew. Shook up was she, all right, yet minus any bruise; (How could this be? she though, amid my nightly cruise.) Blue Fusion in the melon field upon its side, and full of melons since the pane was open wide. (It acted like a scoop of sorts to reap the field; Flo marveled, though, about this accidental yield. Melons to the left of me, melons on my head-- Well, that’s all right, Flo thought, at least I am not dead!) Flo noticed watermelon seeds strewn on the seat; still on her side, Flo giggled and she flexed her feet. Because they’re sticky, watermelons seeds adhere; Flo thought of seeds upon the seat to counter fear. All right, thought Flo, I realize this ain’t my day. Attempting to un-belt, a melon in the way, Flo shook her long blonde hair and wiggled dainty hips; her Fusion shook within the field with melon drips. I’ve met the watermelons--I am theirs, thought Flo; (at first in gloom she pondered, What a way to go!) The inner red of melon everywhere extant; yet Flo could not help thinking fondly, What a plant! Short lived the thought as watermelons were on tap; Flo freed herself and felt some moisture on her lap. She climbed up to the other window and got out, then tossed a hunk of melon as she gave a shout. Flo trod the melon field away from her crashed Ford; surveying damage, she then uttered, “Give me gourd.” All this to-do, thought Flo, because of a black cat! She never cared for watermelon after that. 40 Lines Writer’s Cramp 11-17-15 |
