Reflections on Heaven and Earth
It's 6:18 a.m. And I'm writing. I don't know why the words just come out of me, I really don't. I think they must need to, and it's probably therapeutic that they do. I don't like writing all this personal stuff because I can't help but think of the reader. Who really cares about my personal struggles, anyway?

Oh, yeah. God does. I keep forgetting that. I suppose I keep lumping God in with everyone else, with people, with humanity. Well, that's gotta stop. We are limited, we humans; we require food, sleep, water, good health, and a host of things God doesn't need to think about. If you believe, as I do, that Jesus existed before He ever took human form, the idea is amazing. Statements like " God became man" are abstractions; few think in terms of everyday living when they hear this.

In everyday terms, Jesus did things on earth He never did in Heaven. He became hot, dusty, and tired. He ate, slept, and perspired; He sneezed, coughed, and stubbed His toe. Yeah, there's an image for you---Jesus with a swollen toe. Can you imagine bandages or liniment in Heaven? It's easier to think in terms of what is there than what isn't. The Bible gives some information on what's in heaven, but little on what isn't. There won't be pain or loneliness or sorrow or disease. Those are huge ideas to wrap your mind around, but it leaves out little things. In fact, many things we consider necessary here don't exist in heaven. I'll never need to purchase deodorant again, or seasonal clothing, or gift wrap. No phone, Internet, or grocery shopping to place demands on my time; no vehicle maintainance, or trash pickup, or magazine subscriptions to remember; no doctor, dentist, or optician to look at my health.

Heaven's looking better all the time, actually. But I'm not there yet. Until I am, I can take joy in my ability to accomplish gift wrapping or dish washing, knowing that one day, I won't have to.
