Subject or Theme: If you were a ‘real’ mammal, bird or insect, what would you be and why? DO NOT DESCRIBE the animal (et al). We do NOT want to read that : I have a cute nose, whiskers, long, fuzzy ears and like carrots. This will get you a big goose-egg for a score. Read the prompts!!!

Additional Parameters: DO NOT use the name of your animal in the poem except as a adjective, for example, eagle-eyed or lion-maned or rabbit-eared or dust-bunny or goose-egg. This is merely an option, not a requirement. Last line should in some way identify, by name, the mammal, bird or insect that you are. At least 30 lines.

Proud Majesty Reigns

Proud majesty
Radiates from your presence
Leaving an indelible mark
On the ones around you,
Not just your pride,
But all the creatures
That roam, graze and fly
Within your sphere of influence.
There is an instinctual bond
That holds your group together;
You move as one
Fight as one
Hunt as one
Play as one
Under the beating sun of the Savannah.
You blend into the pale blades
Of the dry land
You lay low
Resting in the hot of the day,
Then when the time comes
Make your move
Plan your strategy
And attack in formation
Keen and sharp.
Your eyes search for the weakest
Of the pack
And bring survival of the fittest
Into being.
Taking down the less
Of the strong
And building up those that remain.
The circle of life
Makes another pass
Through space and time
As it has for hundreds of years.
This is what is done.
This is how you live,
Love and survive.
Intrinsic to your kind
You are the great beast
Who reigns with strength
And vibrance
Not taking more than needed,
But satisfying the necessary
For family and the greater good.
Lioness, hear you roar!
