To Be Pretty

To be pretty,
You must paint your face.
To be pretty,
You must win the race…
In tall heels,
In short skirts,
And you must run, and run, even after it hurts.

To be pretty,
You must paint your lips blood red,
To be pretty…
You must gather your hair up perfect atop your head,
Or straighten it out as flat as a board,
Like your chest,
So you must stuff your bra to be attractive,
And you can't eat real food so pretend it's radioactive.

To be pretty,
Don't do "you",
Just do whatever it is that they want you to,
Because if you don't then you’re not hot,
So then you would need to throw up in the bathroom until you get caught.

To be pretty,
You have to wear a mask,
To be pretty,
You must complete the task of driving everyone away,
You must label everybody, stupid, ugly, poor, fat, or gay.

To be pretty,
You got to be rich,
To be pretty,
And not have money,
You must be a bitch,
And pretend you’re still wealthy,
Never talk more than you should,
Never make a sound remotely like your true self,
And don't ever, ever worry about your health,
The pills are prescription so they must be good,
Not lets shoot up and hang with the bad boys from the hood,
Because it’s cool,
Because it will make you be accepted,
By the pretty girls.

So, I just wanted you to know...
If that is ever what it means to be pretty,
Then I would rather just stay labeled ugly.
