Do you like to hoot? Can you howl or call? Have you learned any good noises at all? ----------------------------- I'll tell. You all about myself As long as it doesn't matter. Pushy neighbors and longnoses Can listen to me chatter About inconsequentals That sound just like news Because of how they are phrased And the tone of voice used Listen to my narrative As I bare nothing much While pouring detail through a sieve Yet portray with a deft touch Employing a small story Offering it vividly So that it does seem To give confidentiality Years of gray-haired distant cousins That want to know the life that's mine " Have you any boyfriends, dearie? " " why, yes. They stand in line." There is an art to telling this Story of a toothpaste stain On my way to a wedding That allows them to remain Assured that I am telling them Something close to my heart When I veer away from that And tell them the juicy part. Which isn't all that juicy. "The wedding? It's just lovely. And I knew them when They were ragged hippies Now they work at IBM." I like these people as a rule But they will only know The tidbits that I toss out Like crumbs upon fresh snow. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Recommend to a friend And watch your friendship grow A smile warms a lonesome heart And cheers someone who's low Ask. And ask. And ask again Ask, then trust and wait. The answer isn't far away So let the doubt abate Accept the gift however it comes And do not fail to believe In the rightness of generosity You asked; now you receive. |
