An Old Tree house

By Lisa Ann Noe*Cat2*

Let me tell this story about a man living in a tree, he raised his children there of which he had three.

It was an oak tree, which grew upon a hill, his house was in the hollow of the trunk this was real.

He was a carpenter and created out of wood, he built all of the houses in the area that stood.

His children did respect him and they loved him just the same, he was a widower and was partially lame.

He had that arthritis in his knees and in his back, so he carried around a warmer in a paper sack.

He went to church each Sunday, was the first one there to pray, he sit in the back pew that is what they say.

I recant this story as I’ve heard it through the years, I tell it now to you through my joyful tears.

Grandpa told the story of how he raised his kids, not letting them do nothing, everything it was forbid.

Up at daylight, going to school, and working hard; and all of the foolery they’d disregard.

Within the tree he raised a lovely family, one in which no one would believe.

Author’s Note:  This is a true story about a man that lived In Harlan Kentucky. I don’t know how long ago, many years ago I presume, but my father told me the story when I was a child so I wrote about it in rhyming verse.
