Ponderings on the god of dreams. (Form: English Sonnet) |
Morpheus Oh Morpheus, you bringer of my dreams, a message from the gods in years gone by, though meaning may not be just what it seems; the tales you tell are no more than a lie. Each night you visit whispering your words, proclaiming they're a gift from heaven's shore. They fly within my dreams like sacred birds yet with the sun's first kiss they are no more. I wake to fading laughter. All is jest – the promises you made ebb with the light and still, somehow, I feel that I've been blessed by your dark benediction in the night. Perhaps your earthly visits are a test, preparing us for our eternal rest.
